Coffee & Convo With Thriller/Suspense Author Douglas Dorow

Coffee & Convo welcomes Douglas Dorow the author of Thriller/Suspense novel The Ninth District.

Tell us Doug is The Ninth District part of a series?

It’s the first book, but I plan to make it into a series with FBI agents as main characters

Tell us a little bit about The Ninth District.

The Federal Reserve has never been robbed.

FBI Special Agent Jack Miller is after a criminal, dubbed the Governor, for a series of robberies and a murder. His investigation reveals that the Governor’s ultimate target is The Ninth District Federal Reserve of Minneapolis.

Agent Miller pursues the Governor into the sewers and tunnels under the Federal Reserve in an effort to stop him before he pulls off the ultimate heist while the rest of the city is above ground celebrating the Fourth of July.

What do you think readers will enjoy most about The Ninth District?

I think there are two things, the characters and their relationships and the chase as Agent Miller pursues the Governor.

Where can we find The Ninth District?

No links yet, since it hasn’t been published, but I plan to publish on Kindle, Pubit and Smashwords by June.

It is currently with an editor and the end of April there’s an auction at my kids’ school where I’m auctioning off a kindle loaded with my book and 36 books donated by 27 authors (including you, thank you very much for the donation of your novel, Sand)and  the naming of a character in the book. So once the edits are done and I’ve renamed a character, the ebook gets published.
You can find a sample of the first few chapters  on my blog at www.thrillersRus.blogspot.com
I’ll be making announcements of the launch from my blog, on twitter @DougDorow, and from my Facebookpage  https://www.facebook.com/DouglasDorowAuthor

Tell us a little about yourself.

I live in Minnesota.  We have a great number of thriller authors here (John Sandford, Vince Flynn, Chuck Logan, Brian Freeman, Grant Blackwood, William Kent Kruegger, Julie Kramer, KJ Erickson, PJ Tracy and many others.  It must be the long winters.

I have a great family; a wife, two kids and two dogs.  I have a day job, a career, as an Information Technology Manager.  I also serve as my son’s chauffeur, shuttling him to his sporting event practices and games.  I often find a coffee shop to write in while he’s practicing.

Why did you decide to become an Indie author?

I’ve always loved to read.  I’ve been writing for a long time with plans to try and publish.  I’ve been a part of a writers critique group for many years.  Father’s Day of last year, my wife bought me a kindle.  About that time I was working on finishing my novel and working on my query letter with my writing group and investigating agents trying to figure out who I was going to query.
Then, the eureka moment happened.  I read about Amazon changing their model where they were going to share 70% of the book price with the author for those listed above $2.99.  That was the moment I decided to become an indie author.  I’ve also follow Joe Konrath’s blog “A Newbies Guide To Publishing” for a long time.  And he and many of his followers came to the same decision I did once Amazon made the announcement.

I was hoping to publish by last Christmas to leverage the ereader boom of gifts, but my mom got sick last fall.  That delayed me for a few months.  But I’m ready to publish now and look forward to publishing many more thrillers.
Being an Indie Author, I’m learning about marketing and trying to figure out how to reach readers, with things like this blog and reviews.  In addition, I found a cover designer, Carl Graves http://extendedimagery.blogspot.com/ and I think he did a fantastic job.  I’m also working with an editor, Erin Potter http://www.shamrockediting.com/

Any future writing plans you wish to share with us?

I plan to keep writing thrillers and suspense novels.  I have two more started. One is the second in this series and the other is a first of a different series.  I’m very pumped about what is happening with ebooks and the opportunities to be an Indie Author.

I agree wholeheartedly. This is a wonderful time to be an Indie Author. Doug, thank you so much for sharing with us today.

Thank you so much for supporting SAND!
